Welcome to My Panton Home

Hi and welcome to the first posting on my new blog,  My Panton Home.

This blog is dedicated to the design of Verner Panton and nothing else.
Here I will talk about my Verner Panton collection which is constantly expanding and changing, and I will post as many pics of my collection as I can and have time to do.
I will also try to give tips on Ebay auctions and other finds I do all around the world and maybe sell some items as well.

My main focus of my collection is fabrics and carpets from the maker Mira-X and since there is so little information about these on the web I will do my best to clarify what was made and what was not, there are many fakes out there, especially in carpets.

I have been fortunate to been talking to Marianne Panton a few times via email and she is kind enough to answer my questions about certain Panton items when I am in doubt of originality and such.
It is my hope to that I will continue to be in contact with her and that she maybe will have time to chime in here to straighten out some question marks that I still have about certain items.

So, let´s kick start with a picture of my livingroom!!

On the wall there is a huge 3 meters by 2 meters rya carpet from Mira-X. It has the design Square and in is made in multicolor pile. It is in near mint condition with beautiful colors and is the best example of a Mira-X carpet I have ever seen.

Next is a triple spiral lamp in chrome down in the corner. It is a reissue from Verpan but still extremely beutiful, especially lit. Beneath that one is an original Louis Poulsen Spy Lamp from the 70´s. Roumor says that they only made 200 of the originals and there is also a rare variant with a blue ring inside on the aluminum making the eye (when lit) blue instead of the normal red.

Up in the ceiling is an original Louis Poulsen 60cm VP globe, it is the only size that Verpan is not producing today. This was my first Panton lamp and is a very cherished possesion.
The story how I got it as well is quite interesting! When I first started to find out about Panton and his designs I was asking around with dealers in my hometown if they knew if there was any items around for sale. I then heard that a more fleamarket kind of place had had over 20 of these 60cm globes but that an out of town dealer had bought them all. I went over there just in case to check if it was true, and yes, they had gotten them from a bank that was redecorating. I of course asked if they realy had sold them all and the owner was a bit ambivalent. I sweet talked him a little more and finally he told me that he had kept the two best ones for himself. I did ask if he not could sell me one and after an hour of more sweet talk he agreed!
So that is the story of how I got my first Panton lamp.

The only non Panton item in the picture is the sofa wich is a Pool sofa by Luigi Colani which is also incredibly cool. I have since located a pair of the original tables which is a story in itself.
More about that later.

Very nice 60 cm diameter VP Globe lamp. I own one myself, but need spare parts after movers lost the bottom ball screw in our last move. Do you know if the dealer you mention having bought the complete lot would sell spare parts ? Could you pass me their contact details ?

Thanks in advance

    Hi Bruno.

I am sorry to say that this was many years ago and the dealer sold all the lamps to a restaurant in NY shortly after he bought them.
So, I currently do not know where to find the bottom ball but you could try Verpan to get a new one.

Thanks. Did try with Verpan but their current fittings on the Ø40 and Ø50 lamps are smaller. Thanks anyway. Kind regards, Bruno
